Dear DanceHouse Community,

Dear DanceHouse Community, As we ease into summer 2020 (and, we hope, sunny days ahead), I am reminded that it is around this time of year that we typically welcome many of our nearest and dearest supporters — volunteers, sponsors, partners, funders andmore — to the rooftop of the DanceHouse office located in The Flats arts district for our annual summer “appreciation party”.

For the obvious reason, like everyone else, we are unable to gather in person this year; so, I invite you to imagine the murmur of an attentive crowd and some tasty cheese and charcuterie on offer as I raise my virtual glass brimming with bubbly in gratitude to the sponsors, community partners, consulates, volunteers, co-presenters and production partners who made last season possible.

Thank you all.

While we miss the live, collective experience of witnessing talented artists and dancers who have come to us from across Canada and from around the world to perform at the Vancouver Playhouse and the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre, rest assured we are actively working on reimagining how we will continue to deliver on our mission to offer transformative cultural events for local audiences.

And it is thanks to supporters, colleagues, and patrons like you, that we are able to continue to do this work. The community support we have witnessed in recent months has been nothing short of astonishing.

Last spring, when we were forced to cancel the last three productions of the season, most of our subscribers and ticket-holders did not hesitate to donate the value of their tickets to DanceHouse. And most recently, when we launched the 12th annual Dedicated to Dance campaign, even in the midst of this challenging and unsettling time, we surpassed our goal of $10,000 and raised well over $18,000.

That’s extraordinary! And, yes, we are feeling the love.

So, for all that you do for DanceHouse — as advocates, production partners, volunteers, staff, donors and arts lovers — on behalf of the DanceHouse Board of Directors, thank you! We trust that the spirit and energy of dance will endure and we wish you and your loved ones all the best for a happy, safe and healthy summer.
